August 2021 has arrived and it is my pleasure to wish you a Happy Women’s Month!
This year I am honoured to be a part of a group of Social Entrepreneurs aiming to make a valuable contribution to our society.
Our aim is to make a difference in the lives of the vulnerable woman in our communities.
Our vision is to continue seeing this project through beyond just an event!
It is our mandate to make an impact on the lives and mindsets of women who struggle with the pain of Gender Based Violence.
It has been a tough 2 years for many, but a tougher 2 years for women who have been in situations that some of us could even fathom. Always living in fear, walking on egg shells, minding their language and always being shadowed by the darkness that exists within their homes. How difficult it must be not to do you, be you and protect you in your own home? Let that sink in…. just for a while.
How challenging is it to live in fear, anxiety and never knowing what to expect? Can you imagine that? What do you say to people when they ask you about a bruised eye, cheek or why there were screams coming from your home last night?
Often our communities look the other way and refuse to become involved in a domestic dispute, because it is said “Its none of your business”. We turn the other way and refuse to do something about a wrong that is being done to another fellow human being, a woman of worth. She does not deserve to be beaten! She does not deserve to be raped! She does not deserve to hear that she is worthless, hopeless or of no use to anyone!
She is worthy of love, respect, happiness! She is the same woman who when in despair, protects her children, loves her children and survives the beating or that intrusive sexual encounter! In my eyes, that woman is a warrior! She is not only a survivor but a warrior on her way to winning the war she has been called to defeat!
It is for this reason, that a group of Social Entrepreneurs, have come together with the aim of honouring Women who are Warriors! Yes sure, we are hosting an event to raise funds for Ihata Shelter for Abused Women and Children, but it will not end there. We would like this to become an annual event in the hope that we would be able to reach a plethora of similar centres such as Ihata in the years that lie ahead.
The event will take place at Gallery 44, Cape Town CBD on the 9th of August and it will host an inspirational panel of speakers who will cover topics pertaining to “all things Female” and a variety of entertainment is not to be missed. We appeal to all those who will be attending to bring along toiletry packs, sanitary towels etc to the event. Even if you will not be able to attend the event, due to Covid Regulations, we invite our communities to drop off any donations at the venue on the day! Girls lets get together and unite and do good in the spirit of Ubuntu! It is said that when a bunch of women unite, greatness follows. Together we can achieve so much more.
Warriors! I right to you tonight to tell you that you deserve to know that you are worthy of praise! You are worthy because YOU ARE WOMAN! You have been placed on this earth with purpose! None of what you are experiencing is supposed to bring you down! OH NO! Instead it has been placed on your path to prepare you for greatness, prosperity, happiness and love that will eventually arrive! This is not the end of the road for you, but merely part of your journey!
The emphasis on Women and their worth should not start and end with Women’s Month in SA. We as fellow South Africans should place women empowerment, equality, rights and the girl child at the top of all agendas, on every platform we are given. And as women, lets own our space in the world and #changethescript in our lives. Lets stop living in isolation and tap into the support system that exists in our circles. Its in our 30 year bff circles, its in our families, its with our cuzzies and our colleagues, our moms and our aunties where we will find the help and guidance we need. Never feel alone dear one, embrace the support that surrounds you, so that we can help you carry the load!
Hope to see you at our 100 Female Strong Event.
